I remember making soap during a campout. The result was great, albeit a little ashy. I decided to make soap the easy way, so I gathered all my supplies together.

Being old and lazy, I used a stick blender to bring my soap to trace. The results were just what I wanted. Now that I got the first batch done, I'm going to make another with some different oils added in (lard + coconut oil + olive oil).

Why am I making soap? Because any old-time skill is worth remembering and practicing. It's a lot like cooking from scratch (I do that every day), except I used commercial lye and distilled water instead of making my own from woodash and plain water. I might try that again next time we have ashes from a woodfire.
